Resources for Decision Makers & Advocates

Join Us in Making Youth Mental Health a Priority!

Mental health is the number one health issue facing young people, far surpassing all other health care needs combined. Youth involved in the child welfare, foster care, or juvenile justice systems are especially at risk. As a policy maker or advocate, we know that you care about young people and want to help them thrive. We also know that low-income youth face a lot of challenges that deserve our attention. Addressing youths’ mental health needs can go a long way in improving their life outcomes overall. Below are our favorite resources for legislators, policy makers, and advocates about youth mental health law, policies, and programs to help make your job easier, and maybe even inspire you to make youth mental health a top priority!*

Policy Resources:

  • EPSDT: A Guide for States: Coverage in the Medicaid Benefit for Children and Adolescents
Department of Health & Human Services (2014)
  • Navigating the Currents: A Guide to California’s Public Mental Health System
California Association of Local Mental Health Boards and Commissions (2008)
  • Building Systems of Care
National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health and Mental Health Policy (2002)
