Samantha Chiang, a fierce college mental health advocate, is one of our Creative Advocacy Awardees.
Sam, 19, is a poetry and critical theory enthusiast currently studying as an undergraduate in English and Asian American Studies at UC Davis. Her identity as a bipolar Taiwanese American survivor with PTSD has shaped both her advocacy and personal journey.
Over the course of her college years, Sam founded the UC Davis Mental Health Conference and Awareness Month, created the official Student Disability Center advisory board, and worked with the Women’s Resources and Research Center towards gender equity and empowerment through performance. Through her work, she has been given the opportunity to present at various statewide venues, with a particular focus on the UC population, giving speeches and workshops on cultural humility and mental health.
As of February 2018, she is organizing a student collective to ensure quality mental healthcare on campus, and works across communities and with the administration in her advocacy.
Join The Party!
Since 2016, we’ve hosted Creative Advocacy to celebrate the powerful intersection of youth voice, artistic expression, and advocating for the mental health of one’s community.
Join us as we continue to reveal our 2018 Creative Advocacy Awardees — youth and adult leaders, like Sam, who work tirelessly to improve young people’s wellness. In past years, Creative Advocacy has brought together several hundred community members and featured hundreds of pieces of youth art. This year will be even more impactful!
We’ll also have an art exhibit, live music, raffle, food and drinks, and a photo booth for guests to enjoy.

We hope to see you there!
